Big Boost For Sports Groups
SIDNEY – Sports organizations in North Saanich and on Salt Spring Island will share $142,915 in the latest round of gaming grants released by the provincial government. They are:
- Peninsula Minor Hockey Association - $73,800
- Peninsula Baseball and Softball Association - $26,360
- Peninsula Lacrosse Association - $12,000
- Peninsula Figure Skating Club - $11,375
- Salt Spring Island Youth Soccer Association - $19,380
Why this matters:
- Across British Columbia, 242 recipients will share $7,689,545 in this latest round of grants from provincial gaming revenue.
- The grants are the latest from provincial gaming revenue announced for the new fiscal year, which began on April 1, 2011.
- This round of grants benefits organizations in the sports for youth and disabled persons sector.

Quick facts:
In 2010/11, government distributed a total of $135 million in gaming grants for eligible community programs and services. The original budget called for $120 million, but in March Premier Christy Clark added an extra $15 million.
- About 6,000 community groups across B.C. benefited from these funds.
